Useful Utilities
Here are just some great utilities I constantly find myself using. Along with the utilities are other software programs (usually pretty small in size) that I find indispensable. There are no direct downloads, only links. Eventually I'll be able to organize this place better when I get lots of entries!
FTP Clients/Download managers:
CuteFTP:
A rather nice and easy-to-use FTP client for Windows. Simply layout yet options
galore.
WS_FTP:
Another great FTP client! I use an older version of WSFTP and I think it's
groovy. VERY easy to use. You can download a 30-day evaluation at their web
site.
Getrite or Gozilla!:
These seem to be the most popular download managers out there. Both have some
of the same features (download resuming and scheduling, etc.), but they have
vastly different interfaces and other extras. I would recommend you try them
both out and pick which one you like. Even if you're a broadband user
like myself, you can benefit from their scheduling, multiple server searches
and the ability to download more than just two files at once! (at least that's
the case when I'm using IE 5.0!)
Email Client
MailWarrior:
Goofy name, kick butt email client. It fits on a floppy! (700K). The
cool thing about it is, that is the exacutable! So, when you run the program,
make sure it's in it's own directory since it'll create several empty folders
for your email!! Get version 3.61 here. The home page
is here. This is by far the neatest
little client I have used. Only supports POP3 email.
Windows GUI Tweaks
X-Setup:
Sounds like a Linux program, but it's not. It's a kick butt Windows
95/98/ME/2000/NT4 *whew* tweak utility!! If you've used TweakUI, then this
is TweakUI on steroids. Great utility. A small word of warning: Power users
on Windows 2000 (non-admin group) can still run the utility, which allows
registry modifications. You may want to prohibit the program only to admin
groups if you have other people using your 2000 machine!
The one place for pretty
much none of your computer needs.
