Building A Better Power Supply
My computer is, well, pretty damned loud. Not earth-shattering, I-have-14-fans-on-my-video card-loud, but it's up there nonetheless. Two case fans, 1 CPU fan, 1 northbridge fan, 1 power supply fan, 1 video card fan and 1 loud as all hell hard drive.
I've thought about buying "quiet" items to calm the raging beast, like super-duper quiet power supplies, etc, but they're always too expensive; maybe not for you, but since I'm a poor bastard, they really put a hurting on my pocketbook (saving up for a marriage doesn't help either hehe).
What's worse, my video card fan was starting to give the warning signs that it's about to poop out...You know, when a fan starts becoming really loud at times, then will quiet down, then start back up again. Worn bearings, maybe, but annoying definitely.
After reading these silence tweaks, I thought I'd give it all a whirl. Well, maybe not all of the tweaks, but the part about lubricating your system's fans sounded like it would be effective.
Well, at first everything was going smoothly (no pun intended). I shut down the system, pull out both of the case fans, and begin to work. Fan 1, check. Fan 2, check. Video card fan, check.
The one place for pretty
much none of your computer needs.
