HAL hits version 75.3 and a bit more content
:)
First off, I just added a bit to my tweaking section
(okay, actually I just started it!). Hopefully it will grow into something
that is genuinely useful to at least one person besides myself.
Just in case you're wondering what the heck HAL is: Today I got my new memory
module in from Crucial. It's a 128MB stick of 2-2-2 timing PC133 that's running
like a champ alongside my Mushkin module! Since HAL (my computer) was at version
75, I decided he needed an upgrade designation. Yeah yeah, I know, I'm a nerd
:P

Update to the power supply article and slightly
more content.
First off, I've added a couple of new entries under the Great Utilities
section. I added a new link for X-setup and Mailwarrior, two neato little
programs. Also added an Opera Promo at the bottom-left of the navbar.
Next, I've actually gotten some feedback regarding my power
supply article!! First, time to give some props to whoever wrote in:
First, reader kilo dropped me a note saying:
...but i think i've "heard" it somewhere that the
normal case fans are not as reliable as the fan in the power supply, and that's
why it's in the power supply, just thought i'd warn you.
Good advice, so take it! My take on it: If your power supply fan is already of high quality, don't go messing around with it :) But it it's louder than what you want, replace it with a good, high quality case fan. Just make sure they have similar cfm ratings (aka how much air they're capable of moving).
Later, another reader (name soon?) sends in:
1: all the fans you use are DC Brushless...just
like the Loud one in your Power Supply
2: in order to be a Ball bearing fan...only One of the Two bearings needs
to be a ball bearing...and usually it is the inner bearing that you can't
see..the outer one under the tape / seal is a bushing
3: unless the fan states Double ball bearing it isn't and most likely you
wont see...a bearing as noted in #2...
4: New Bushing Fans are cheaper and Initially quieter than double ball bearing
fans....but get REAL noisy with Age and Use... [snip].
There you have it folks! Some good information I never knew myself, since I've never actually researched fans to a great extent. Hopefully I'll get time later on to actually do some digging. The truth is out there. Hmm, now I just have to hunt down true-to-life double-ball bearing case fans. Anyone have a link? Email me!

Making your own quiet power supply!
Well, after reading about some noise tweaks over at tweak3d,
I thought I'd share this little thing I did myself :) Basically, what started
as a simple fan project ended up as a simple power supply modification. WARNING!!
Messing with a power supply is potentially VERY dangerous.
Please, don't do this if you don't know what you're doing. But, if you want
to take your reliable power supply and give it a nice quiet update, check
out these steps! Make a quiet power supply for around $7!

Hi there folks!! Just in case you're wondering, this is my new page
design! Hope you like it.
I decided to first of all lost the frames. Some people don't really like them,
and some browsers don't either :).
I also decided to give the site a much cleaner look, and also lose all the pop-up windows I had (especially in the photos section). Since I've been using Opera 5 recently, I've discovered pop-up windows are very annoying!!! Speaking of Opera. You should really give it a try; it's a great browser/email client! The only strange thing that I've noticed so far is that Opera isn't displaying my layers level..but that may be my strange configuration!
The one place for pretty
much none of your computer needs.
